Celebrating Jerusalem

Jerusalem’s Day is just around the corner. It is an Israeli national holiday commemorating the unification of Jerusalem in the aftermath of the Six Day war in June 1967. This year the celebrations will take place on 4th-5th of June. Jerusalem is not only a sacred city, the capital city of Israel and a place rich with history; it is also one of the best cities in this small country. 1. There is nothing more beautiful than watching the sunrise and Jerusalem being revealed in all its glory, so be ready to head to the Mount of Olives, where you will have a spectacular view of the city.
2. For breakfast, walk to Machane Yehuda market and try sambusak, a pastry often filled with cheese, and drink dark Israeli coffee.
3. After you recharged your energy, walk around the market that offers everything: spices, sweets, bread and vegetables, experience its colors and scents, it is a true cultural and culinary gem.
4. After walking for a few hours, you can have lunch in one of the local restaurants, near the old city. There you will find Hummus or continue to Moshiko’s kiosk in the Ben Yehuda pedestrian mall.
5. You can have coffee and desert in one of the cafes in the beautiful and picturesque neighborhood Ein Kerem that brings a bit of country into the big and busy city.
6. A must-see in Jerusalem is the alleys of Nachlaot, one of the oldest neighborhoods in western Jerusalem. If you enjoy peace and interested in enjoying Jerusalem in tranquility, this is the ideal place; narrow streets and stone houses reveal magnificent architecture, unique to Jerusalem only. The German colony is another part of Jerusalem known for its peace, where you can inhale Jerusalem’s fresh air and relax.
7. If you are into music and having fun, you should head to Emek Refaim or the Ben Yehuda pedestrian that are filled with street performances.

9. In the afternoon, be sure to visit the Western Wall and ancient city of David, an amazing place, where you can see the sun set in on the Jerusalem stones.
10.Time for dinner and Mamilla! Mamilla has a relatively new shopping center, located in 10 ten minutes’ walk from the old city, where you can find galleries, chic stores and cafes.
