Tu B’Shevat, or as we may call it Shevat 15th is the New Year for trees. It is a wonderful celebration of nature, preserving it and the beautiful world we live in. To take part in this special day and contribute to nature, you need to follow these simple steps:
1.Initiate tree planting campaign in your neighborhood, office or home. Show and teach why it is so important for each and everyone us to plant a tree, that will grow and spread its branches over our children on warm summer days.
2.Make it an all fruit and nuts day-Healthy and symbolic! Eating from the Seven Species, also known as Shivat Haminim). Sweet pomegranates, dates, figs and olives are delicious and great to get that extra energy boost on cold or difficult days. Host your family and friends for a healthy celebration. Be sure to serve in colorful or classic serving dishes, decorated with the Seven Species-they will captivate all and inspire them.
3.You can also make a special dish for Tu B’Shevat, sweet pears juice, yummy gelato or warm and comforting barley soup. Just pick one of our recipes and everyone will be asking for more!
4.This Year Tu B’shevat takes place on Shabbat, which is a great opportunity to create an all Tu B’Shevat inspired table. Adorned with pomegranates, flowers or Seven species, make sure your Kiddush cup, challah board and candlesticks contribute to the festive atmosphere and reflect your love for nature.
5. Nature has always been a charming and inspiring element in Judaism. The Tree of Life is another important symbol in Judaism. First mentioned in book of Genesis 2:9, planted in Garden of Eden: “And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.” It is a symbol of beauty, God and life. What can be a better decoration for your Tallit? As you pray and express gratitude for all the good in your life, be adorned with tree of life on your shoulders.
6. Last, but not list, not only trees deserve to be in the spot line! We go out, work hard to plant trees, create a festive Shabbat meal for our loved ones, run errands and work at home. We work like busy bees and at the end of the day we want to sparkle as well. So, this is something for you; small, yet unique, in gemstones or classic in silver, adorn yourself with one of these pieces especially-picked for you, for this special day. Because we all need a charming pomegranate, flower or tree of life piece!
We hope you have a green and nature friendly Tu B’Shevat!
